How to Create a Favorite Tab in darktable 4.0.0 and Stop Searching!
darktable has a module search function since version 3.0.0 or so, this helps already a lot. But sometimes it can handy to have all your favorite modules in one tab. There was a favorites tab till some versions ago. But some developers probably thought it makes things too easy, so lets removed it and make it designable by the user. And this is how you can do it:
To start with the creation you must be in the darkroom mode, where you do your actual edit. On the right, below the different wave forms you have the tabs for:
quick | active | technical | grading | effects | ☰
This is how it looks like:
Click on ☰ and you get:
Next, click manage presets… and you get a new popup:
Duplicate default and give it a name, I choose default2
Now you can close the window, click ☰ and choose default2 at the bottom
At the Window the preset on the upper left is now called default2
In the center click on module groups +
On the right side you get a new module group, called, well, new :
You can name it as you like. The group will stay at the top right and the name only shows up when you hover over the group icon. Now you click the + sign and and you see the complete list of modules to chose from.
After you added all the modules you want it may look something like in the image below.
Before you close it click on ◯ and chose the ☆ favorites icon
Close it, click again ☰ > modules:default2 Ready! You favorite tab is there and will load automatically when you start darktable!
Ready! You favorite tab is there and will load automatically when you start darktable!
Sounds very complicated. But when you do it the 2nd time it will take you probably less than 2 Minutes.
Have fun and enjoy darktable!
